GSPS Community Representative
Auxiliary Constables may be responsible for:
- Supporting positive police‑community interaction and providing police visibility at community events (e.g., parades, fairs).
- Assisting with crowd management and public safety at large events such as the Santa Claus Parade or Sudbury Rocks Marathon.
- Working with Community Safety and Well‑Being staff on crime prevention and community mobilization initiatives.
- Delivering the Robbery Prevention Program to small businesses under the direction of the Community Engagement Section Sgt.
- Participating in traffic safety initiatives, including observations for caution letters and child car seat activities.
- Supporting the Notification of Community Crime (NOCC) Program.
- Assisting GSPS at information booths during public events.
- Helping recruit candidates for the Auxiliary Program.
- Providing a visible presence in parks, trails, ravines, walkways, and other public spaces.
- Participating in ride‑alongs with police officers.
- Attending and contributing to monthly meetings and call‑out events.
- Responding to calls in a timely manner.
- Taking part in assignments fairly, including both special events and administrative duties.
Auxiliary Constables may assist with:
- Participating in Tactical Unit and hostage‑rescue training scenarios.
- Supporting Public Safety & Emergency Planning training exercises, including emergency preparedness activities.
- Assisting officers during marine, bike, ATV, and snow machine patrols.
- Providing support during missing‑person searches (e.g., transporting members, equipment, or food).
- Maintaining perimeters at emergency incidents.
- Transporting members, equipment, or supplies during emergencies.
- Performing traffic control at emergency scenes.
- Assisting other GSPS members and Auxiliary personnel as needed.
- Carrying out additional duties that do not conflict with the Police Services Act or GSPS policies.
