Civilian positions may be full‑time, part‑time, permanent, or temporary. These roles allow individuals to work in a policing environment without becoming a police officer.

Communicator

Relays information to police and fire field units in response to calls for service. Acts as a call taker/screener and switchboard operator as required and answers all 911 calls for the City of Greater Sudbury, relaying the calls to the appropriate emergency agency.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of Secondary School Education (Grade 12) or equivalent
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Keyboarding to a minimum of 45 wpm
Successful completion of CRITICALL test and candidate assessments
Demonstrated competency in using Microsoft Word and Excel
Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
Must be psychologically fit to perform the duties
Must be available to work shift work (days and nights).

Data Entry/CPIC Clerk

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Records and Customer Service, the Data Entry/CPIC Clerk ensures the timely entry, maintenance, quality and confidentiality of data and information secured within the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system and the records management system (RMS). Supports the flow of information throughout the organization to support investigations, prosecutions, deployment of resources, reporting and data analytics.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade 12) or equivalent.
Good knowledge of office procedures and routines through related experience.
Must be able to meet standards of a Spelling and Grammar Assessment.
Demonstrated computer competency in using programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel/Windows/Adobe.
Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem solving skills.
Keyboarding to a minimum of 45 wpm.
Must be available to work shift work (days and nights).
Must be psychologically fit to perform the duties.
Knowledge of Police Service activities, police protocol, and procedures necessary to ensure accuracy and completeness of documents considered an asset.
Knowledge and functional use of current Records Management System’s is considered an asset
Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.

Customer Service

The Customer Service Clerk – Switchboard serves as a liaison between the general public and police records branch by providing a customer service through telephone and office reception and operates the main Switchboard console as required. In addition, provides assistance with the release of police information, when required.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade 12) or equivalent.
Experience in dealing with the public.
Good knowledge of office procedures and routines required through related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office related software to an accomplished level, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Keyboarding to a minimum of 45 wpm.
Bilingualism (English/French) is required.
